Recently TIA conducted a workforce survey, the last of three we’ve carried out over the last 18 months to get a feel for how the industry is doing.
As the tourism workforce rebuilds, retraining and retaining staff has been paramount.
Our survey found that the need for staff is still high, with one in two tourism organisations or businesses looking for staff at the time of the survey in March.
This is a trend that has been consistent for over a year, with vacancies spread evenly across skill levels. Vacancies were spread between entry, mid-level and skilled roles, with the hotel sector the heaviest recruiter.
The positive here is that at a time when many sectors are retrenching, there is a lot of opportunity in tourism.
