TIA welcomes the release by MBIE of the latest International Visitor Survey for the year ended June 2025.
Overall international visitor spend in New Zealand was up 4.3% to $12.1 billion which reflects the massive contribution of tourism to the New Zealand economy, with spending and jobs supported right around the country.
Critically, we continue to provide wonderful experiences for our visitors, with 92% satisfied or very satisfied, 96% having their expectations met or exceeded; and with a Net Promotor Score of 70, meaning most of our visitors recommend our country as a place to visit. As a point of reference, Bain & Co, the creators of NPS, suggest that a NPS score above 50 is excellent. All credit to tourism operators for ensuring our visitors leave our country having had a great time.
The IVS release highlights arrivals at 87% of 2019 levels and inflation-adjusted spending at 86%. These numbers reinforce the importance of the Government’s Tourism Growth Roadmap that is designed to create the path to doubling tourism spend by 2034. TIA supports this work and will be working with Government to make it happen.
