Code of Conduct at TIA Events

Tourism Industry Aotearoa (TIA) is committed to creating positive and inclusive experiences for everyone at our events.   

This Code of Conduct outlines the expected standards of behaviour to ensure that all attendees including, stakeholders and staff, feel safe, respected and welcomed. We celebrate diversity and are committed to fostering an inclusive environment where everyone can fully participate. 

By attending TIA events, you agree to uphold these standards and contribute to a positive experience for all. 

 

Scope 

This code of conduct applies to delegates, guests, contractors, volunteers and suppliers attending or otherwise engaged by TIA for events or other TIA supported activities. The Code of Conduct applies for the entire duration of the event, including both official activity hours and events connected to but outside of the official programme. 

 

Expected behaviour  

  • Treat everybody with respect regardless of nationality, gender, race, religion or background. 
  • Be considerate. 
  • Create welcoming environments for all, regardless of role, identity, or background. 
  • Communicate effectively and considerately across all communication channels including verbal face-to-face and digital channels (e.g. email, Whatsapp etc). 
  • Respect personal space and boundaries of other attendees. 
  • Take personal accountability for safety.  
  • Be aware of your surroundings and report any hazards or potential hazards, accidents, incidents and near misses to TIA staff 
  • Consume alcohol responsibly. 
  • Abide by relevant laws and regulations during the event.  

 

Unacceptable behaviour  

Includes but is not limited to: 

  • Harassment, bullying, intimidation, or discrimination of another. 
  • Physical abuse, sexual harassment or uninvited physical contact of any form. 
  • Verbal abuse including comments related to an aspect of an individual i.e. gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, race, religion etc. 
  • Disruptive behaviour.  
  • Excessive intoxication. 
  • Consumption or possession of illegal drugs. 
  • Unauthorised possession, removal or deliberate damage of another’s property or equipment. 
  • Behaviour that threatens TIA’s reputation or that of the event.  

 

Reporting unacceptable behaviour 

  • If you are the subject of unacceptable behaviour or have witnessed such behaviour, please immediately notify a TIA or event staff member (in-person, by email or by phone). 

 

Consequences of unacceptable behaviour 

  • At the sole discretion of TIA, anyone engaging in unacceptable behaviour may be asked to leave the event immediately and without warning or refund and may also be prohibited from attending future TIA events.
