New Zealand set to welcome more Chinese visitors

16 June 2025

TIA has welcomed the changes to Chinese visitor visas, making it easier to choose Aotearoa New Zealand as a holiday destination.

"It is great to see further initiatives to smooth the path for visitation from China, building on the removal of the need to have document translations certified for visitor visa applicants announced by Minister Louise Upston at TRENZ in May. We have heard from our members that work directly with travel buyers in China, that our visa settings have been a barrier for them, so this trial change is well timed", says Rebecca Ingram, TIA Chief Executive.

The year-long trial will start in November, with eligible Chinese passport holders travelling from Australia with an approved visa no longer needing a New Zealand visitor visa. Instead, they can enter with just an NZeTA - saving time and money.
