Conservation Amendment Bill - TIA's Submission

Conservation Amendment Bill - TIA's Submission

TIA has now submitted on the Conservation Amendment Bill, following member feedback, stakeholder discussions and a detailed review of the proposed reforms.

This Bill is the biggest update to New Zealand’s conservation management framework in decades. TIA supports the need to modernise the system, particularly where reforms can improve DOC concession processes, provide greater certainty for operators, and better enable high-quality visitor experiences that are consistent with conservation.

Our submission also identifies areas where the Bill needs further refinement and stronger safeguards; ensuring conservation remains the overriding purpose of the legislation, providing clearer settings for concession allocation and pre-approved concessions, and making sure tourism is properly recognised in future conservation planning.

TIA also supports the ability to levy international visitors at certain sites, provided funds are reinvested back into the places where they are raised and add to, rather than replace, existing DOC funding.
