Policy Positions — Industry Issues

Immigration Settings & visa processing

18 December 2023

TIA supports the development of the Kiwi tourism workforce but recognises the essential role of overseas workers where there are skill shortages and where there are few New Zealanders ready and available for the work required.

TIA recognises that many tourism jobs are seasonal and in remote parts of the country, with both characteristics limiting the pool of New Zealand workers.

TIA advocates for flexible immigration settings to cater for tourism workforce needs in the context of factors such as specialist skill shortages, seasonal patterns and the location of the jobs.

We are also strong advocates for visa processing that enables visitation and meets the operational needs of the industry.

TIA is well positioned to raise concerns and to promote changes to immigration setting with the appropriate authorities.
