A key factor in a successful recovery of tourism in New Zealand post pandemic is having enough of the right people in the right place at the right time. Tourism needs employers to be providing quality employment, including paying a fair wage, good working conditions and providing upskilling opportunities. TIA advocates that all tourism businesses strive to be ‘Employers Of Choice’ (TSC Commitment 7). For long-term success, TIA advocates and where appropriate drives for:
- A tourism workforce development strategy
- A tertiary education sector that is aligned to the needs of employers and provides a pipeline of appropriately skilled people
- Establishing an improved view by New Zealanders of tourism job and career opportunities
- Immigration policies that enable employers to recruit and retain overseas workers where there are no suitable New Zealanders available.
