What do you do at TIA?
I help with the association's communications. This ranges from the quick, responsive stuff like getting good answers to questions from our friends in the media, through to the longer-term things like promoting Tourism 2050: A Blueprint for Impact and helping keep these all lined up. I also look for opportunities to share the many fantastic stories the industry has to tell, to those who need to hear them - whether our elected representatives, or the young person who is about to find a career that will transform their life.
What's your career background?
I've had a varied career path, though telling stories tends to link it all together. I've been a journalist for provincial and national outlets, before moving into communications and marketing for associations. Most recently, I've been doing communications and stakeholder engagement work for a variety of government departments and commissions, helping get things moving again after COVID-19.
What do you do for fun?
I'm a big fan of exploring the delicious food and drinks kiwis are growing and making, and really enjoy experimenting with cooking, cocktails and distilling.
I also love getting outdoors - I'm a keen trail runner, and cannot turn down a good roadtrip.
What’s one thing every visitor to New Zealand should do?
Find a way to have their own experience, to create their own story about this magical place.
If there is one thing that brings us together, it's that we've all travelled to this far edge of the world, looking for something different.
